Sometimes I wonder what I look like to the people around me. Do I seem like just another kid joining the popular clubs for the sake of polishing my college applications? Do I seem like someone who is trying too hard to be a part of this family, that it is almost pathetic? Do I seem like someone who is fake, considering the hype grew immensely only after I experienced my first DCON?
In my past four years of high school, I have joined Kiwin’s four times. I didn’t pay my membership fee the first two years, so I wasn’t even an official member. I paid my fee late in my Junior year. I only attended three events throughout my Freshmen through Junior year, excluding the events I attended after running or becoming Vice President. Those three events were Pre-Turkey Trot 2008, Fall Rally 2009, and DCON 2010. Weak? I thought so too.
As for the questions above, the answer to all of those questions are yes. At one point, I was the kid following the bandwagon of join the popular club you see all the kids joining. I was the kid who saw this as taking the first step to a pretty college application. After seeing the bond between people during spirit events, I longed for that familial feeling with these only temporary strangers to the point that I felt pathetic at times. And of course, there are still times where I feel fake because I feel like I’ve done nothing but play, where was my service?
These doubtful feelings have faded a lot since before. I figured everything grows differently on people, and everyone gets attached to things differently. Just because DCON was what ignited my Kiwin’s fire, it isn’t the reason of how I came to love it. Everything about Kiwin’s, from the people, to the service we provide, to the love we share, to the spirit we express, everything, that’s what made me fall for Kiwin’s. There is so much to say about this club, that it is almost overwhelming, so I’ll stop here. Here is the summary of my story with Kiwin’s:
Turkey Trot was where I met Kiwin’s. Fall Rally was where I fell for Kiwin’s. DCON was our first date. Today we are in a steady relationship, still going strong.
